THEY TRUSTED TURKS - REFUGEES IN TURKISH TERRITORIES THROUGHOUT HISTORY – AMBASSADOR (R) ENDER ARAT
The Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) will organize a meeting for the launch of the book titled Türklere Güvendiler - Tarih Boyunca Türk Topraklarına Sığınanlar (En. They Trusted Turks - Refugees in Turkish Lands Through History) by Ambassador (R) Ender Arat.
Ambassador (R) Ender Arat, who during his career served in Buenos Aires, Bonn, Budapest, Madrid and the Permanent Mission to the EU in Brussels, also served as the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Turkey, the Chief of the Foreign Office of the Prime Ministry and the Deputy Undersecretary in charge of Economic and Cultural Affairs. Ambassador (R) Arat, in his book Türklere Güvendiler - Tarih Boyunca Türk Topraklarına Sığınanlar published in 2016 by Tarihçi Kitabevi, traces people and communities of different ethnicity, religion and nationality who escaped from the pressures and torture they suffered in the lands they lived for centuries and sought refuge in the territories of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey. Ender Arat’s book is an important work especially in a time where xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-immigration and extreme nationalism is on the rise, and migrants and refugees are fenced off in Europe, which claims to be “the stronghold of freedoms and humanitarian values”.
AVİM wishes to welcome you at this meeting that will be held on 3 February 2017 – Friday at 14:00-16:30 at AVİM Conference Hall.
