On 22 October 2020, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) had held an online lecture titled “Musa Dagh 1915: A Revolt or A Resistance?”, at which the main speaker was the retired Prof. Dr. Kemal Çiçek, within the scope of the Ömer Engin Lütem Lectures.
In his presentation titled “Musa Dagh 1915: A Revolt or A Resistance?”, Çiçek shared his comprehensive analysis on the incident of the Armenians of Musa Dagh, who did not accept the relocation and resettlement policy of the Ottoman Empire and resisted the Ottoman gendarmerie. Çiçek accomplished this by referring to the relevant Ottoman sources, which have been underutilized so far, as well as to American, British and Red Cross documents.
Çiçek’s book titled “The Armenians of Musa Dagh, 1915-1939: A Story of Insurgency and Flight,” in which he analyzes the process of the transfer of the Armenians of Musa Dagh to Port Said between 1915-1939 as well as their return and their spread to the world in 1939, has been recently published by Lexington Books. The book can be ordered from Amazon.com.
This work, which provides a balanced perspective regarding the events around the Musa Dagh using Ottoman and Armenian sources, is presented to the readers’ attention in English.
