The Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) is a think tank that has been consistently carrying out its academic studies on the Turkish-Armenian controversy regarding the 1915 events since its establishment. One of the events that has been organized since 2018 at AVİM, in which academic studies on genocide allegations and related discourse are at the forefront, is the “Ömer Engin Lütem Konferansları” ("Ömer Engin Lütem Lectures").
For the first time in 2016, the scientific studies of academics, researchers/writers and diplomats who participated to “Ermeni Konferansları” ("Armenian Lectures") as speakers and their studies related with the Turkish-Armenian controversy were published as a book titled “Ermeni Konferansları 2016” ("Armenian Lectures 2016"). The studies presented at the lectures in 2017 and concerning the genocide allegations and related discourse were included in the book titled “Ermeni Konferansları 2017”.
Following the passing away of the Founder and Honorary President of AVİM Ambassador (R) Ömer Engin Lütem on 6 January 2018, the lecture series organized under the title of “Ermeni Konferansları” continued with the title “Ömer Engin Lütem Konferansları” ("Ömer Engin Lütem Lectures"). The articles, which constitute the basis of the ten lectures held in 2018 were published as a book titled “Türk-Ermeni Uyuşmazlığı Üzerine Ömer Engin Lütem Konferansları 2018” ("Ömer Engin Lütem Lectures 2018 Concerning The Turkish-Armenian Controversy").
The book titled “Türk-Ermeni Uyuşmazlığı Üzerine Ömer Engin Lütem Konferansları 2019”, edited by the Director of AVİM Ambassador (R) Alev Kılıç and published by AVİM, was included the ten studies presented at the lectures held in 2019.
The opening meeting of the “Ömer Engin Lütem Konferansları” in 2019 was held on the first anniversary of the passing away of our Honorary President, Ambassador (R) Ömer Engin Lütem, with the participation of (R) Ambassador Bilâl N. Şimşir as a speaker with a speech themed “Ermeni Sorunu ve Ömer Engin Lütem”. The said text, created by decoding the voice record of Bilâl N. Şimşir’s speech, serves as the introduction of the book. The studies that constituted the basis for the lectures in 2019 are gathered in the following three sections: “Aşırı Milliyetçi Ermenilerin Yabancı Güçlerle İşbirliği ve Terör Faaliyetleri”, “Türk-Ermeni Uyuşmazlığının Diaspora Boyutu” and “Ermeni Kimliğinin ve Kültürünün Temsilleri”.
The section called “Aşırı Milliyetçi Ermenilerin Yabancı Güçlerle İşbirliği ve Terör Faaliyetleri” ("The Ultranationalist Armenian Groups' Cooperation with Enemy Powers and Their Terrorist Activities") in the book is about the nationalist Armenian groups and their collaborations with the prominent British and German leaders in the 19th and 20th centuries and the activities of Armenian terrorist groups in this time period.
Two studies analyzing the roles of the the Turks living in France and the Armenian diaspora in Argentina and their role in the “Armenian Question” are aggregated in the section titled “Türk-Ermeni Uyuşmazlığının Diaspora Boyutu” ("The Diaspora Dimension of the Turkish-Armenian Controversy").
The studies gathered under the title of “Ermeni Kimliğinin ve Kültürünün Temsilleri” ("The Representations of Armenian Identity and Culture") constitute the last section of this book. In the context of Armenian identity and culture, the studies in this section cover the Armenian claims of 1915 events, Armenian nationalism and the image of the Turks in the literature, press and new media.
