Armenia’s public television channel has reported that the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office has filed new charges against former President Serzh Sargsyan. As a precautionary measure, he has been placed under a written commitment not to leave the country.

According to the channel, a criminal case has been opened against Sargsyan on allegations of illegally seizing land adjacent to Isakov Street and the Yerablur military site in Yerevan. He has been charged with large-scale embezzlement and money laundering.

Previously, Sargsyan was accused of orchestrating large-scale theft of state funds and granting undue privileges to the company “Flash” during his presidency, allowing it to win a government tender for diesel fuel supply. However, in May last year, a court acquitted him of these charges.
