Nouri al-Maliki, head of the Iraqi State of Law Coalition, and the new EU Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Smutner, discussed the latest political and security developments in the country and the region on Wednesday.

Maliki's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that: "The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received the new EU Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Smutner, at his office today. At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the State of Law Coalition welcomed the ambassador and wished him success in his new mission in Baghdad."

According to the statement "the meeting addressed the latest political and security developments in the country and the region, as well as the progress of the parliamentary elections and the formation of the new government."
