The presidents of Poland, Lithuania and Romania on Monday signed an open letter reiterating their support for the “people of Belarus in building a democratic path, via democratically elected state leadership, a free civil society, market economy and the rule of law”.

The declaration comes as tens of thousands took to the streets of Minsk and other cities on Sunday to demand the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko and accusing him of having manipulated the results of the 9 August elections to perpetuate his authoritarian regime, triggering a wave of protests that is now in its seventh week.
