Yorgos Kalantzis, Secretary General for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, made statements on 1 December 2023 in Thraki newspaper about the Xanthi Minority Secondary School and High School belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

Kalantzis stated that the Committee of the Xanthi Minority Secondary School and High School Council had sent an open letter to the President and the Prime Minister regarding the building issue of the school and noted that Greece is a democratic country and that protest knows no boundaries as long as the laws are not broken. Kalancis noted that securing the rights of minorities is a very important issue for Greece and argued that the Greek minority in Istanbul has been eroding over the years compared to the developing Muslim minority in (Western) Thrace.
