TRNC Presidential Special Envoy Güneş Onar addressed concerns over ongoing issues at the crossing points, saying efforts are being made to avoid speculation. “If this arbitrariness is true, we will raise the matter with Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos and next week with UN Secretary-General’s Cyprus Personal Envoy Holguin. Hopefully, it isn’t—this is the last thing anyone wants: a new crisis,” Onar told Kıbrıs Postası.

Onar noted that the issue is being monitored technically by the Police General Directorate (PGM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding, “We also intervene through the Checkpoints Committee.” He said three initiatives have been taken to prevent speculation, including maintaining contact with Aderemi Adekoya, acting in the absence of the newly appointed UN Peacekeeping Force Special Envoy, who is currently raising the matter with Greek Cypriot authorities.
