2022 ÖMER ENGİN LÜTEM CONFERENCES - 6

BOOK PRESENTATION - “THE TURKS AND EUROPE” BY GASTON GAILLARD

Speaker: Dr. Maxime GAUIN (Scholars in Residence – AVİM)

The 6th of the 2022 Ömer Engin Lütem Conferences with Dr. Maxime Gauin as the speaker will be held on 28 June 2022.

We are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the book titled The Turks and Europe that will be held on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 between 14:00-15:30 UTC/GMT +3 hours (Ankara time).

Initially published in Paris right after the defunct Sèvres treaty, then in English in London in spring 1921, The Turks and Europe is a detailed critique of peace conditions maliciously designed to be imposed on the Turks. The book’s author, Gaston Gaillard, argues that the treaty is neither fair nor realistic. Dwelling on the Turkish history briefly, Gaillard describes and analyzes the events of 1914-1920, answering the claims of the Armenian nationalists and their supporters, defending a strong Turkey made of the territories inhabited by a majority Turks that would become a barrier against Communism. In this conference, Dr. Maxime Gauin will not only present the content of the book and its place in the French public opinion during the Turkish War of Liberation, but also the support enjoyed by Gaillard inside the state apparatus.

We will be looking forward to your participation in this event to be held on 28 June 2022, Tuesday between 14:00-15:30 UTC/GMT +3 hours on the Zoom platform.

Kindly note that pre-registration is mandatory and participation in the event is limited to the first 100 registrants.
