AVİM commemorates with sorrow the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre that was committed by Armenian forces on 26 February 1992 in the city of Khojaly in Karabakh, a region of Azerbaijan that was occupied by Armenia and its affiliated Armenian separatist forces for around 30 years. 613 Azerbaijani citizens lost their lives because of the massacre, while 487 people survived with serious injuries. Additionally, 1275 people were taken captive by Armenian forces, while the fate of 150 of those captives remains unknown. Despite the existence of undeniable concrete evidence regarding the Khojaly Massacre, no meaningful steps have been taken either in Armenia or in the Armenian diaspora to confront this grave event. In solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan, AVİM condemns this callous attitude towards the Khojaly Massacre and wishes Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives.
