The European Union has congratulated the citizens of the Republic of Armenia “on exercising their sovereign democratic right to vote in parliamentary elections”, which took place on 7 June, and commended “the high level of civic participation”.

According to the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party won the parliamentary elections, garnering 49.81% of the vote.

In a statement released on behalf of the EU, High Representative Kaja Kallas quotes the preliminary findings and conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission. The conclusions say that “the campaign was highly polarised”, but the elections were managed “in an inclusive manner, offered clear political alternatives, and were well organised, under a sound legal framework”.
