The Iraqi Justice Minister, Khaled Shwani, emphasized on Wednesday the importance of establishing a bilateral agreement with Russia for the transfer of prisoners.

Shwani met on Wednesday at the Ministry building with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iraq, Albrus Kutrashev, to discuss prospects for legal and judicial cooperation between the two friendly countries, according to a statement from the Ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The meeting discussed “the possibility of concluding a bilateral agreement for the transfer of prisoners between Baghdad and Moscow, particularly given the presence of several Russian nationals in Iraqi correctional facilities, as well as those recently transferred from Syrian territory through official procedures after the completion of legal proceedings against them."
