CONFERENCE TITLED "MONTENEGRO AND THE BALKANS"

Jointly organized by the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM), the Research Center for International Political and Economic Relations of Ankara University Faculty of Political Science, and Karadağ Dostluk Derneği (En. Montenegro Friendship Association), the conference titled “Karadağ ve Balkanlar” (En. “Montenegro and the Balkans”) was held on 25 April 2017 at Ankara University.

(R) Member of Parliament and Political Director of the Bosnian Party of Montenegro Prof. Suljo Mustafic delivered a speech as the guest of honor during the conference. The other three participants of the conference, faculty member of Ankara University Department of International Relations Prof. Dr. Çınar Özen, Director of the Montenegro Friendship Association (R) Ambassador Murat Oğuz, and AVİM Consultant (R) Ambassador Yiğit Alpogan, offered general evaluations regarding the Balkans and talked about Turkey’s interest in the region.

During the conference attended by members of diplomatic missions, academia, and think tanks, alongside Turkey-Montenegro bilateral relations, topics such as the elections held in Montenegro, the foreign policy of Montenegro, and Montenegro’s relations with the European Union and NATO were discussed and it was indicated that Montenegro has adopted policies that seek for balance and stability in the region.

Touching upon economic developments in general terms, Prof. Mustafic also mentioned development projects -foremost in the in the fields of infrastructure, tourism, energy, and agriculture- planned to be enacted in the upcoming term. Prof. Mustafic also mentioned opportunities for investment in Montenegro and invited Turkish investors to Montenegro.
