
On 22 November 2022, a roundtable discussion with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Amb. Terhi Hakala was held at AVİM.
At the roundtable that was also attended by academics from a number of Ankara universities and diplomats, participants shared their assessments on Central Asia from economic, political, and geopolitical angles. EU’s and Türkiye’s Central Asia policies were discussed at the meeting. Also, polices and influence of the external actors, such as Russia and China, were brought up. Another topic of the roundtable was the EU-Türkiye cooperation in Central Asia. Participants of the roundtable exchanged their views on the possibilities and challenges in this regard. Within this framework, participants expressed their ideas on matters related to energy security and transportation issues.
Overall, the roundtable discussion served to a more comprehensive and in-depth exchange of EU and Turkish views on matters centered around Central Asia. The meeting availed better understanding of the concerns, interpretations, policies and strategies of the EU and Türkiye vis-à-vis Central Asia.
