AVİM-IPIS EXPERT-LEVEL ROUNDTABLE MEETING HELD IN ANKARA

On 1 December, AVİM hosted an expert-level roundtable meeting titled “Turkish and Iranian Perspectives on the Current Developments in the South Caucasus and Central Asia” with the Tehran-based Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). At this roundtable meeting, three different sessions were held, at which AVİM and IPIS analysts and Turkish and Iranian diplomats delivered keynote speeches that were followed by open discussions.

At the first session titled “Current Regional Developments in the South Caucasus”, developments in the South Caucasus, and Turkish and Iranian perspectives on current, developments in the Wider Black Sea Region were put on the table. The second session focused on current regional developments in Central Asia. Speakers at this session shared their views on the New Silk Road Project, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Economic Cooperation Organization, security and stability in Central Asia, and energy and transport corridors. In the final session, Iran-Turkey bilateral relations and their regional aspects were discussed. In specific, participants of the meeting shared their views on the recent developments in bilateral relations, opportunities and challenges in the post-Iran nuclear deal era, and public opinions in Iran and Turkey.

This expert-level roundtable meeting is the follow up of AVİM’s visit to Tehran on 14th and 15th of September 2015. AVİM and IPIS intend to continue periodical meetings in the future.
