50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN NATIONS (ASEAN) COMMERATED IN ANKARA The 50th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were held in Ankara on 13 September 2017 with the participation of the Ambassadors from AESAN countries. Ambassador of the Philippines Marina Rowena Mendoza Sanches hosted the event which was held on the grounds of the National Library. In her speech Sanches emphasized the role of Turkey in the ASEAN.

CONSULTATION MEETING WITH TURKISH AMERICAN NATIONAL STEERING COMMITTEE (TASC) CO-CHAIRMAN GÜNAY EVINCH On 8 August 2017, Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC) Co-Chairman Atty. Günay Evinch and AVİM analysts held a consultation meeting. During the meeting, Günay Evinch and AVİM analysts discussed the current state of Turkish community in USA and developments in Turkish-Armenian relations, and exchanged opinions on related subjects.

CALL FOR PAPERS - ULUSLARARASI SUÇLAR VE TARİH / INTERNATIONAL CRIMES AND HISTORY The ICH calls for papers that focus on past and present-day ethnic, religious and national conflicts in the Balkans, the Caucasus, the Eurasia region, and the Middle East from sociological, political, historical and legal perspectives, and reviews of recently published books on these subjects for its 18th issue that will be published in February 2018

FROM THE TAIPEI ECONOMİC AND CULTURAL MISSION IN ANKARA AND ACADEMICS FROM TAIWAN On 20 June 2017, representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission in Ankara and the General Secretary of the Association of Central Asian Studies - Taiwan Dr. Chien-Yu Shih made a visit to and held a meeting at the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM).

THE REPORT TITLED "THE PONTUS NARRATIVE AND HATE SPEECH" HAS BEEN PUBLISHED Since its establishment in 2009, The Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM), in its activities and publications, mainly focused on the Armenian Question and made comprehensive studies concerning the Armenian claims and allegations. While working on this question, we observed a gap in the literature in Turkey regarding similar claims and allegations put forth by the Pontic Greeks.

SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL FORUM OF THE CONFERENCE ON INTERACTION AND CONFIDENCE-BUILDING MEASURES IN ASIA (CICA) On 28-29 June 2017, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) Director Ambassador (R) Alev Kılıç, together with Ambassador (R) Çınar Aldemir, former Executive Director of CICA and currently on the board of AVİM, attended the Second Annual Conference of Non-governmental Forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Beijing, China.

CONFERENCE TITLED “LEGISLATING REALITY AND POLITICIZING HISTORY: CONTEXTUALIZING ARMENIAN CLAIMS OF GENOCIDE AND RESPONSES TO THE CAMPAIGN” On 17 May 2017, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) hosted Assist. Prof. Brendon J. Cannon at the conference titled “Legislating Reality and Politicizing History: Contextualizing Armenian Claims of Genocide and Responses to the Campaign”.

A SYMPOSIUM TITLED “TURKISH-ARMENIAN RELATIONS AT THE 100. YEAR OF THE JUNCTION” WAS ORGANIZED IN KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM UNIVERSITY On 27 April 2017, a symposium titled “Yol Ayrımının 100. Yılında Türk-Ermeni İlişkileri” (En. “Turkish-Armenian Relations at the 100. Year of the Junction”) was held in Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. After the conclusion of the symposium, a trip was organized on 28 April to the Süleymanlı (Zeytun) region of Kahramanmaraş with the participation of the academics and AVİM staff who took part in the symposium.

CONFERENCE TITLED "MONTENEGRO AND THE BALKANS" Jointly organized by the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM), the Research Center for International Political and Economic Relations of Ankara University Faculty of Political Science, and Montenegro Friendship Association, the conference titled “Montenegro and the Balkans” was held on 25 April 2017 at Ankara University.

George Ciamba, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania together with the Ambassador of Romania in Ankara and his delegation on April 21.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hekmat Khalil Karzai at the conference titled Afghanistan and the Political and Security Landscape in the Region.

COMMEMORATION HELD AT MARTYRS' CEMETERY OF THE FOREIGN MINISTRY, ON 18 MARCH MARTYRS' DAY 40 members of MFA, who had been martyred since 1970s by terrorist organizations such as Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA), Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide (JCAG) Armenian Revolutionary Army (ARA) and Revolutionary Organization 17 November were remembered at the ceremony held at Martyrs' Cemetery of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in the Cebeci, Ankara.

25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KHOJALY MASSACRE AVİM commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre committed by troops of the Republic of Armenia on 26 February 1992 in the town of Khojaly in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which still remains under illegal occupation of Armenian separatists along with seven surrounding regions.
