AVİM 2016 annual Report was published.

THE SECOND ISSUE OF THE HISTORIA 1923 JOURNAL IS OUT

The second issue of the biannual and Turkish-language Historia 1923 journal is out. The journal gives space to academic articles, interviews, and columns regarding cultural and historical issues.

CONFERENCE ON "SECURITY ALONG THE SILK ROAD" HELD IN INDIA

Özge Nur Öğütcü, AVİM Analyst, participated in a two-day meeting titled “Security Along the Silk Road” organized in New Delhi, India on 15-16 December 2016.

On 13 December, AVİM organized a conference titled “Bitlis’te Bir Amerikan Misyoner Aile ve Soykırım İddialarına Etkileri” (En. “An American Missionary Family in Bitlis and their Effects on Genocide Allegations) with Prof. Dr. Haluk Selvi as the guest speaker.

AZERBAIJANI JOURNALISTS’ VISIT TO AVİM

On 13 December 2016, an extensive delegation consisting of journalists and chief editors of Azerbaijan’s leading newspapers visited AVİM within the framework of the Project for Turkey-Azerbaijan Media Relations.

CONFERENCE TITLED “THE CURRENT STATE OF THE ACADEMIC DEBATE OVER THE EVENTS OF 1915 IN AN INCREASINGLY ISLAMOPHOBIC WEST”

On 9 December 2016, AVİM organized a conference titled “The Current State of the Academic Debate over the Events of 1915 in an Increasingly Islamophobic West” with Assist. Prof. Christopher Gunn as the speaker.

AVİM-IPIS EXPERT-LEVEL ROUNDTABLE MEETING HELD IN ANKARA

On 1 December, AVİM hosted an expert-level roundtable meeting titled “Turkish and Iranian Perspectives on the Current Developments in the South Caucasus and Central Asia” with the Tehran-based Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). At this roundtable meeting, three different sessions were held, at which AVİM and IPIS analysts and Turkish and Iranian diplomats delivered keynote speeches that were followed by open discussions.

The staff of the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) celebrates the 93^rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey and our nation’s Republic Day.

CONDOLENCES FOR IRAQI TURKMENS

On October 21, because of the deplorable attacks carried out by DAESH terrorists throughout the city of Kirkuk, many members of the Iraqi Turkmen community and Kirkuk News Director of Türkmeneli TV Ahmet Haceroğlu who was in line of duty were martyred.

CIVILIAN VICTIMS OF WAR IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE 1878-1918: WHAT 'HISTORY' DOES NOT TELL US? - JEREMY SALT

On 23 June 2016, Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) held a conference titled Civilian Victims of War in the Ottoman Empire 1878-1918: What 'History' Does Not Tell Us?, at which Jeremy Salt, a retired academic who taught courses on Middle East history and politics at Bilkent and Melbourne universities was the speaker. Jeremy Salt is the author of the books Imperialism, Evangelism and the Ottoman Armenians 1878-1896 and The Unmaking of the Middle East. A History of Western Disorder in Arab Lands, as well as numerous academic articles.

On 21 June 2016 Center for Eurasian Studies held a conference titled “Turkish-Armenian Relations in the Light of Recent Developments” with Osman Faruk Loğoğlu as the keynote speaker.
